【 ad astra 】A faint & irritated twitch scatters across the edge of his mouth at this. Is the other toying with him? Or is he actually being serious? His brow is tempted aloft as both gray-blue hues mottled with tell-tale stars narrow skeptically. ’ If I was to have Carlisle here, why then would I argue and insist he should not come? ’ He grows impatient now, perplexed, and wonders perhaps if his companion was vying for time of some sort. For what he is not sure, but he had best be on his guard for anything that may spring out of the shadows unseen. ’ I do not need a babysitter in order to attend my own affairs — do I look so young to you? 3000 years I have prospered, and 3000 years are more than enough to have grown wiser than most. ’ However, whether the decision to embark upon this crusade alone without aid is yet to be determined foolish or brave. Legolas believes he is doing what’s best not only for himself, but for what he would like to consider his family. And putting them in danger for his own sake was not at the forefront of his mind, nor his first incentive.
’ I am more than capable of doing this myself. ’ He has fought wars and climbed out at the top victoriously. His strength here may not match their’s, but he doubts they will jump straight to killing him — unless their intent was to have a coven of angry vampires tear them apart for retribution.
The snide remarks that rush to his lips are left unspoken with the reminder that he is in their territory, sanctuary to all creatures, vampires, wolves, a hybrid and an ancient, as old as the masters. Immortal is he, accompanied with the everlasting thirst for knowledge, as all are bound to. 3000 years, unseen and unheard of by the Volturi — where was he all this time ? ’ Master Aro would be d e l i g h t e d to see Carlisle. ’ The tenacity is unrelenting and instincts are coaxing him into madness yet the mask of his etiquette remains, a skill mastered in his eight hundred years. He carries the reputation of his coven with him. To do something that would disgrace the very name of the Volturi is never to be done.
’ I appreciate your willingness but I still have other orders to fulfill. ‘ His enthusiasm is dangerous, as his entirety. The unpredictability of the creature may lead to Demetri’s death, by unleashing a force greater than him once the opportunity strikes. Better safe than dead. ’ I came as a bringer of news, not an escort. ’
She was a good girl before, and they still didn’t like her. So what did it matter if she was a good girl now? They still wouldn’t like her, because she was different, and different was always dangerous to them. Nessie felt bad for thinking like that — not all people were the same, and she was sure there had to be at least one person in the Volturi who didn’t hate her. But she didn’t want to risk this person with that person. And even if she wanted to move, she couldn’t, because tears were rolling down her cheeks and fear had her paralyzed.
he watched as drops of crystal tickled down her face. f e a r he understands, but sadness and grief remains alien to him. the meals that heidi brought in volterra often wailed in desperation and terror, and most times he found it compelling, to be able grasp such emotion in their last moments. yet with these tears, he has been devoid of empathy for so long that he no longer bothered to acknowledge them.
’ no. i’m not having a vision right now. ’ unfortunately, the volturi still think that alice could see everything, & therefore, making them want her more. it was… u n s e t t l i n g. gracefully balancing a tray which holds some fancy, pretty drink she’s read about on the internet, she walks around demetri to offer it to one of her more–––– thirsty guests, & as she does, she looks as if she were dancing. ’ you know, you’re lucky i didn’t tell jasper you’d be coming. or carlisle, for that matter. what do you want? ’ she says, not bothering to interrupt her friendly exchange of smiles with a too-tall, too- lanky teenager, before turning back around, granting the taller one her unshared attention.
’ it would be my pleasure to know if i’m included in one of your.. visions. ‘ he utters his appeal in low tone, his cravings masked by the weight of his gaze, charm and debonair in a faint smile. though the idea of being regarded as a work of art thrills him to no end, he does the cullens a favor ( and himself too, though he would deny it to his last second ) and blends in with the main course, a polite nod to every pair of eyes that linger. ’ oh, you didn’t? it makes me wonder w h y. ‘ a beat falters and he whispers, lips barely parting with the bizarre churning of sounds enveloping them. ’ your gifts. t h e y might come looking for me. i don’t want to be found. ‘
she doesn’t know where her creator is— she’d left her alone months before, leaving the newborn in a forest to fend for herself. she had gotten tired of mari’s constant hunger and impulsivity, along with her occasional emotional distress. & so her creator had left her—- she w i s h e s she knew where she was. such a little lost soul, wasn’t she?
’ i d-didn’t—-.. i didn’t k-know there were l-laws. ‘
tiny hands will fidget with her shirt, torn and ragged—- blood splattered on the edges.
’ y-you’re—.. o-one of the volturi? ‘
she’s heard of them— very briefly by her creator. she knows they are like leaders to the vampires, people who oversee most— but she didn’t know any more than that.
courtesies and petty talk would never be done had felix or jane and alec come with him. with all decisions made he might as well be on his way back to volterra; felix using his brute force and experience to the newborn’s disadvantage, jane ending her the moment the situation is assessed and alec assisting at his sister’s bidding.
’ pity. ‘
he smells the moist soil and the abundance of nature, corruption and rotten flesh, dried blood and lack of discipline.
& he knows she is going to meet her end one way or another. demetri counts the seconds in his head in curiosity, on how long he could resist the mad intention of destroying her himself.
