【 ad astra 】A faint & irritated twitch scatters across the edge of his mouth at this. Is the other toying with him? Or is he actually being serious? His brow is tempted aloft as both gray-blue hues mottled with tell-tale stars narrow skeptically. ’ If I was to have Carlisle here, why then would I argue and insist he should not come? ’ He grows impatient now, perplexed, and wonders perhaps if his companion was vying for time of some sort. For what he is not sure, but he had best be on his guard for anything that may spring out of the shadows unseen. ’ I do not need a babysitter in order to attend my own affairs — do I look so young to you? 3000 years I have prospered, and 3000 years are more than enough to have grown wiser than most. ’ However, whether the decision to embark upon this crusade alone without aid is yet to be determined foolish or brave. Legolas believes he is doing what’s best not only for himself, but for what he would like to consider his family. And putting them in danger for his own sake was not at the forefront of his mind, nor his first incentive.
’ I am more than capable of doing this myself. ’ He has fought wars and climbed out at the top victoriously. His strength here may not match their’s, but he doubts they will jump straight to killing him — unless their intent was to have a coven of angry vampires tear them apart for retribution.
The snide remarks that rush to his lips are left unspoken with the reminder that he is in their territory, sanctuary to all creatures, vampires, wolves, a hybrid and an ancient, as old as the masters. Immortal is he, accompanied with the everlasting thirst for knowledge, as all are bound to. 3000 years, unseen and unheard of by the Volturi — where was he all this time ? ’ Master Aro would be d e l i g h t e d to see Carlisle. ’ The tenacity is unrelenting and instincts are coaxing him into madness yet the mask of his etiquette remains, a skill mastered in his eight hundred years. He carries the reputation of his coven with him. To do something that would disgrace the very name of the Volturi is never to be done.
’ I appreciate your willingness but I still have other orders to fulfill. ‘ His enthusiasm is dangerous, as his entirety. The unpredictability of the creature may lead to Demetri’s death, by unleashing a force greater than him once the opportunity strikes. Better safe than dead. ’ I came as a bringer of news, not an escort. ’
【 ad astra 】Here he is now faced with two very difficult decisions. He could leave with Demetri and possibly march straight to his death ( and refrain from forewarning Carlisle for he need not bother him with only a potential threat ) or he could refuse. But the latter, he is convinced, will start a fight, and he has no skill in destroying vampires — as well, a good portion of his familiars have been left at home, he is armed only with his bow and arrow which will do little in close hand-to-hand combat. He could try to get a hold of Carlisle and the others, but the whole point of him insisting the matter be taken into his own hands was just that. He did not want the Doctor involved if he could help it, Eru only knew what may happen if he lost his temper in order to protect the Prince. And he should like to keep that mild and comforting temperament about him. It was what he loved the most after all.
’ Very well, I will go, but do not assume me helpless or an easy prey. ’ If there is to be a fight, he will revolt to the last breath, and he will spare no pity for these creatures just because he was enamoured with one.
His gaze flickered to the flowing golden locks resting on the other’s shoulders; the finest threads of silk, woven with expertise only one so dedicated to beauty and arts and perfection could muster. The influence of archery was more evident in the ancient years, and though it continued to be a part of weaponry in the Middle Ages, the decline of the allure of the primitive weapon showed throughout the wars that came with the introduction of longbows and guns. Orders were never to be questioned but the creature’s strange fashion and choice of weapon, the lack of modernity in his ambiance and the distinct hollow ring in his trail did. How Carlisle came upon the extrinsic individual, he wanted to know.
’ Alone? ’ The worst decisions were often realized too late, ones most tragic. There was a fine line between bravery and idiocy and Demetri wondered if the other was aiming for one or both. ’ Without Carlisle’s supervision ? ’
【 ad astra 】’ Carlisle is unavailable — you can speak to me. ’ How effortlessly a simple lie is woven like threadbare carpet from his lips. The Doctor, in fact, has no doubt returned from the hospital and is awaiting Legolas’ return from the hunt. But if this man before him believes he will reveal the whereabouts of their private cottage so easily, he was gravely mistaken. He is rather fond of that home; he solicits comfort in knowing it is a secret to all but himself and his partner, and he would hate for that barrier to be shattered because of his own carelessness. ’ You have come on account of business because of me, so why not tell it to me? I am no secret to myself. ’ He assumes that’s the case anyway, though he could very well be wrong. This world does not turn for him, he is nothing more than an unwarranted blemish here; he may not matter at all, and he is willing to embrace that fact.
’ I know where he is. ’ Knowledge of their world was inevitable to this creature in Carlisle’s company though the other’s reasoning remained a futile attempt to conceal what was already found. The prime member of the coven was not far, the calm and steady ambiance of the trail remaining motionless. And alone, was he; as the rest of the Cullens were revealed to be far when he shifted his targets. Demetri was still amidst the life and beauty of nature, paying no heed to the wilderness and the rush of the animals’ blood at the back of his head. The bold display of the creature’s insolence was nearing the peak of his tolerance. His face did not give anything away but the gleam in his crimson eyes was ever evident. ’ I will spare you the details. Your presence is requested in Volterra for — questioning. ’
【 ad astra 】It is with this that he feels his heart lowering itself into the pit of his stomach where it shall burn and wither away in bitter acid. He might have guessed their secret would not stay a secret forever — though they had been so careful — he wonders how word had spread. This thought he could entertain later. ’ Let me hear your warning, and I will decide what to do to with it. I am fortunate to have found you first, and not he. ’ Fortunate was the farthest from where his position was, but he would rather that he face the problem than Carlisle. After all; he was the one out of place here, not him. ’ He has told me your kind do not like what they cannot understand, I suppose I fall under this category, do I not? ‘
This entire scheme will lead to the creature’s demise, he knew. How futile it was for St. Carlisle to think that this exquisite tenor would escape his grasp, an evident mockery to the Volturi. Master Aro picked the trail from one of their encounters with the coven, a most definitive blur of the unknown, a string of thoughts leading to the Cullens’ company. ’ My warning is not for you to hear. Your decision — it is not yours to make. ’ A smirk graced his lips. What kind of warped reality was taught this to this creature to speak of such words? ’ I have arrived before I’ve left. I have found all of you long before you found me. I am to speak to Carlisle, not you. ’
【 ad astra 】A piece of his conscious reels; the word orders has never brought him anything of substantial value that was in terms of good. His framework may become doused in tension, but his expression, his stature, they all stay the same. Defining what he feels by scratching it into his face and out in the open where it can be easily observed was not his style. ’ What orders could bring you out this far into these woods? ’ His tone is accusatory; brash. He knows not yet with whom he speaks.
A curious creature, this one is. He eyed him carefully, past the elegance and the statuesque posture, and scrutinized the trail in closer inspection. The essence was not of anything he had encountered before; a distinct hymn, foreign in all aspects, the resonance of a note that was yet to be. The Cullens have let a potential threat slip under their fingers yet again. They never seemed to learn from their mistakes. ’ The Volturi know of your existence. ’ He said, his eyes flashing a bright crimson. ’ I come as a warning to Carlisle and his coven. ’
【 ad astra 】’ You are lucky — my arrow almost hit you, but now you have scared away my prey. ’ A pity, too, for he had been close to finally having dinner after nearly three hours of hunting. Lowering his bow, a mildly skeptical look on his face. ’ Why have you come so far out in this place? ’
He fought the urge to applause ——- a bow and arrow and a presence not quite human. The Cullens never cease to amuse him with the kind they surround themselves with.
But it is of small wonder since St. Carlisle presides over them.
’ You are lucky your arrow didn’t hit me. ————– I have orders. ’
